View BMW F10
In the sixth generation of the
BMW 5 Series (
F10) made its debut on 23 November 2009 as a 2010 model. The Station Wagon / Touring version carries the code F11 chassis. The chassis is shared with the 7 Series (
F01) and
6 Series (F12).
It was designed by Jacek Fröhlich from November 2005 to December 2006, with upright split kidney grille and more prominent in the absence of "
Bangle butt" rear styling of the E60 predecessor. Externally, the car is a more traditional design BMWesque, an effort much wiser after the controversial E60. Although bears some resemblance to the E60 with the wide kidney grille and the Hofmeister kink very clear, creases in the bonnet and just underneath the door are clearly related to the earlier
5 series models E39 and others.
F10 shares the platform with the BMW 7 Series (
F01) and has been described as different from the E60 series predecessors-downsized 7 Series is considered to be upsized 3. The development of next-generation E60 5-series include dual ball joint short-long arm front suspension and multilink rear suspension, making it more subtle but more severe. While E60 has a front aluminum chassis structure from the firewall forward (
which provided the perfect balance but expensive to fix), F10 has returned to a conventional steel monocoque.
Engine BMW F10
North American models using the old N52 240 bhp (
179 kW; 243 PS) engine in the 528i. In Europe, N53 direct injection engine used in the 528i and 530i. In most parts of Southeast Asia, naturally aspirated 2.5-liter straight-six petrol engine in the 523i N52T installed, providing the same power output as the 3.0-liter variant at 204 PS (
150 kW; 201 hp) but a slightly lower torque at 250 N · m (
180 lb · ft). Straight-six engine 2.5-liter is available in China. This engine produces 177 PS (
130 kW; 175 hp) and 230 N · m (
170 pounds · ft) of torque.
Transmissions BMW F10
The ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission are available for all models. In North America, 8-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment, with a 6-speed manual be no cost option for the 535i and 550i.
All-wheel drive (
xDrive is called by BMW) is available with 528i, 535i, 550i, 525d, 530d, 535d and M550d models. It's no entry-level model for North America, in 2011 BMW 528i (
which had a naturally aspirated inline-6 N52), but again with the optional 2012 BMW 528i and the N20 turbocharged direct injected inline-4.
